How you can help
What Bhola’s Children does is to provide funds and emotional support to Ali and his team at Bhola Garden. The administration costs of the charity and the costs of regular visits and telephone calls to provide the emotional support are entirely borne by the trustees and other volunteers. So 100% of the money we get from donations and Gift Aid is sent to Ali and his team (less the inevitable bank charges and currency conversion costs).
For the year 2009/10 we need at least £4,000 a month to cover salaries and the day-to-day operating expenses of Bhola Garden. This figure has doubled since the previous year partly because the number of live-in children has more than doubled with the new building and partly because of severe adverse price movements. The prices of rice, fuel and building materials have fallen back from their peaks before the “credit crunch” but are still substantially higher in terms of Taka (the Bangladesh currency) than in 2007. Also £1 now only buys 105 Taka compared with 135 in 2007, a fall of a third in the purchasing power of UK donations.
You can help by:- making a single one-off donation
- making a regular monthly donation
- sponsoring a child with a regular monthly donation
- encouraging other people you know to donate
- asking family, friends and colleagues to sponsor you in some activity (one of our trustees Barnaby Wiener ran in the SaabSalomon South Downs Marathon on 14 June 2008).
Donations can be made direct to us by post using these (Microsoft Word) forms single donation / regular donation
Or through the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF)
Or online through Just Giving
(JustGiving is currently the only way you can pay us by debit or credit card or Paypal, but please remember that JustGiving charges us 5% commission, so a direct donation to us ensures all your money goes to help the children.)
Specific fund-raising events will be publicised on the website from time to time.
